The Dorothy Dollar / The Pink Pound

I found this interesting article from the BBC website. Long but a good read.

Source

When it comes to doing business few tradesmen care about the colour of your money, so long as it is real.

One class of cash has a very distinct name. In Britain it is often called the Pink Pound, in the US the Dorothy Dollar. It is the huge amount of money spent by those of gay or lesbian sexual orientation.

It is estimated to be worth $350bn a year. As society has relaxed the laws on homosexual life, more people are prepared to identify as being part of that class - and with that, of course, companies are more easily able to target that sector.

And what a sector! In the battle for business, the campaign is on to identify and sell to homosexuals as never before. And for good reason.

Because of family circumstances (or more precisely lack thereof) the gay community tends to have much more disposable income to spend.

BLUD TECH: Android Technology

Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll know that in the last 18 months, the android platform has slowly been making its way into the mainstream via popular mobile phone brands like Motorola, Samsung and HTC. The 1st 4G phone in the World, the HTC EVO was so popular among critics and consumers alike that it allegedly caused rivals Apple to rush the release of their equivalent the IPhone 4, which received a barrage of fault related media abuse shortly after its launch. I am a big team android fan and absolutely love what HTC are coming out with via this platform.

I'll leave you with this vid:

So who are you backing? Team Android or Team Iphone?

Anecdotal Entertainment: The Skorpion Show Reviews Sizzle '10

Check out this hilarious review of Sizzle '10.

Faggotry aside: this guy is decent

Check out NBA baller Brandon Jennings fagging out to Lady Gaga. Apparently the video below of the 21 year old is a dare so I'm not holding it against him. If anything, the fact he doesn't take himself so seriously is a plus point in itself to him so is easy on eye and definately someone I wouldn't mind chilling with on the regular.

LOL of the day: Chinese child

No words for this... no words!

Remember Milan Christopher Going All Out?

Remember my post a couple of months back about Milan Christopher going all out for an audition? Well the ad which was for Virgin Mobile, has now surfaced online. Peep it below:

What a joke! Its like if you blink you'll miss him! I had such high hopes for the finished product given the audition tape but then again you can't always get what you want.

Atlanta Black Gay Pride organizer found shot to death

A Black Gay Pride organizer was shot and killed early Wednesday, according to a report by WSB-TV.

Durand Robinson, 50, of Decatur, an owner of the popular Traxx Atlanta club and promotion team, was shot after he got into an altercation with another person, the station reported.

Philip Boone, who was Robinson’s business partner, told WSB, "This was devastating for our community and the Traxx family. He was an angel ... we will miss him.”

According to a preliminary police report, Robinson was found in southwest Atlanta lying in the middle of Hadlock Street with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was found shortly after 1 a.m.

The preliminary report states, according to Officer Kim Jones:

"Residence at Hadlock Street SW called 911 at 0123 hours to report a person injured. Grady EMS and Fire Rescue units were already on the scene. The victim was deceased on scene by an apparent gunshot wound. Residence at Hadlock Street SW heard a commotion in the street followed by a single gunshot and the sound of a vehicle speeding off. The residence advised that when they looked out they saw the victim lying in the street and called 911

Police continue to seek a motive and have not named a suspect in the case.

Traxx Atlanta promoter Gerald “G” Thompson told Georgia Voice this evening he and others were “trying to hold it together.”

This is so deep. From what I know Traxx is a major black gay club in Atlanta especially with Atlanta Black Pride a week away. Even though I am not big on going out, you've got to pay homage to the people that made their idea of giving gay folk a place to kick back and have fun kudos. I hope the man is in a better place now. RIP.

Oh Marcus....

Former actor / gogo dancer Marcus Patrick posted this youtube video which is bound to get people talking. Peep it below:

After watching this, it had me asking myself, "Is Mr Patrick all there in the head?" He is coming off like those folks that have been in isolation for too long; no steady partner (unhomely looking apartment), no family living locally (British Born) and living in a City (LA) where most folk are supposedly image obesessed and out for themselves. Hollywood made him, I just hope that Hollywood doesn't break him as well.

@Kidfury is furious at Soulja Boy and his antics!

Youtuber FuryTV offers some interesting commentary on the Soulja Boy situation.

Only the kidz...

Tuesday, 24 August 2010

If as a minority you have to work twice as hard...

Then the kidz have to work 10 times harder. Case in point. Sean Bankhead and Jonté, two dancers on their A game after booking the job to end all : Beyonce - Single Ladies on the Tyra Banks Show. I mean really study this video, I am a fan of hard work and these two are killing it like they have minutes until their rent is due after the final eviction notice.

And the final product:

Be inspired!

FYI: There is no demon to cast out. Let the boy be!

And the poor brother is only 16.

Here he is on Tyra.

Then the 'minister' trying to justify their ways:

Even though I don't get the whole cross dressing thing, I feel so sorry for him. One of the things I struggled with in my teens is whether to act out on the natural desire that I'd been brought up to be digusted by and having no-one to talk to about the shit I was going through. Is it any wonder why most people that you can't tell get down will continue life keeping it that way? I'll keep him in my thoughts.

My 2 Pence: So... Who's Your Guy?

I am a fan of the City, so when Joe Zee, Creative Director of US Elle magazine asked emerging designer Whitney Port who her 'girl' was in reference to her line, it got me thinking about who my 'guy' is in reference to the blog. So here it is:

My guy is the cocky yet aloof type. Stylish but sutble in appearance and easy on the eye. Quick witted and wicked sense of humour. Comfortable about the elements that make him who he is, yet no desire to wear his sexuality on his sleeve in a one dimensional fashion. Personable, Intelligent, driven, modest and surrounded by positive people.

Most importantly, appreciative of nuggets of entertainment and insight that collective make 'The Blud Blog', yet thinking about it, there is something for everybody here be you male or female. No?

I've come to the conclusion

That I am now cool with who I am. Can you tell by looking at me? No. Do I carry the burden of stereotype by saying this? Nope. Does it mean that DL heads won't check for me anymore? No. Does it mean my style must suddenly appear effeminate? No?

Can you look in the mirror and say the same out loud? Some will say yes with no qualms because that is who they are and all they've ever known.

For others, because dating guys is the primary attraction yet they can still be turned on and sleep with women, they feel that subscribing to a label will put the nail in the coffin of any experiences outside of the connotation it carries. Sexuality is fluid, you can be attracted to people and not a gender. Labels allow others to understand you but if you know yourself then a label can't trap you. It also takes the power out of the hands of another if you can own the situation.

When you really check it, although its not everything you are, love and sexuality will be an area in life that remains stagnant while all the other area progress and evolve. Your peers start to have kids and get married yet you've got everything going for you but love, because of how you are dealing with sexuality on a day to day. I'll be the first to say I've thrown away so many oppotunity at love because I wasn't ready to deal with what does along with it, but everyone deserves to be happy right?

The truth might step on your toes, but you'll walk a lot better when they heal. So with that I am changing my banner from 'not all the way cool with it' to making the pill of living the alternative life a little easier to swallow.

Doctor drops some D.L. Knowledge

Check out this piece of footage from TVOne show Black Men Revealed, a magazine show where in this episode, the topic of discussion is the DL Phenomenon.

Dr. Malebranche really bowled me over for six with his insightful views (and killer smile). Valid points were made on how the focus needs to be on the act of infidelity and not gender seasoned with ignorance standpoint that is being peddled around the mainstream.

*LMAO with Kevin and his zesty mouth getting it in at the end.

My 2 Pence: Its Started off cool but then the attraction faded... why?

Ever been in that cool ass hell chill situation with a new candidate? Conversation is flowing, company is cool... until you have your 1st fight. The dynamics then change and before long its like you are dealing with a situation that you feel is no longer worth your time. Sounds familiar right?

Its usually down to a few factors. In the beginning, its all about the smooth talking and lavish gestures. You want the candidate to be into in the same way you are into them. Once you get confirmation you turn the intensity down and here in lies the problem. Said candidate sees Mr High Intensity as you and has bought into the fantasy of having the intensity on a daily. Intensity is a time consuming business, especially if your main focus is to get your hustle on to better your future and the candidate is eating into your ability to do this.

Usher in a recent interview hit the nail on the head when he said that he got married because in his eyes he had found someone to love him the way he wanted to be loved. I guess the point I'm making is that when it comes to serious dating, don't be blindsighted by material things in another; lift up that sleeve and show your heart and ambition, that way you attract the real and not the opportunists.

Movie Review: RagTag

Remember my post about RagTag back in April? I got my hands on it today so I thought that I would write a review. When the film started rolling, my intial reaction was "Oh no, over hyped movie, with a low budget and deadbeat acting". Ten minutes in and this had changed.

I love the subtle implying by the writer that the two friends at a young age were tighter than your average, Raymond aka 'Rag' staying over each night laying with his friend and sneaking out in the morning Clarissa style. Rag being Carribean and from a broken home, and Tag from a religious Nigerian background. The film fast forwards 10 years, and the film really gathers pace. Issues such as, the closure Rag gets from his mum on being a bad parent, Tag's hardcore dad knowing about everything and his attempts at destroying it, and the plot seeing the characters travel to Nigeria, this movie had it all!

What stood out most to me is the shoestring budget worked to the films advantage; It kept the focus on the interlinked stories and getting to know each character in depth, leaving no loose ends once it faded to black as well as touching on cultural issues that British Africans and Carribeans will no all too well. Danny Parsons and Damola Adelaja gave really strong performances.

Support this movie. If anything, because of the believable characters living beyond the stereotypic glam shop, party and play and looking fabulous "lifestyle"

Rapper Cazwell video: Icecream

Check out this new video by "Team Chico" rapper Cazwell. The downtown NYC native is pals with the likes of Lady Gaga and featured in the video for worldwide smash, Just Dance.

Do I care for his flow? No. Was I taken by the fact that the rarity of a gay rap video means you are going to watch from start to end? Maybe. My pet peeve is dudes with good body acting a little feminine as to me its a turn off but apart from that, an entertaining watch.

Final Grade; C-

Prop 8 ruled "Unconstitional"

U.S. District Chief Judge Vaughn Walker has ruled today that Proposition 8, a law that prevented gay marriage in Califorina is unconsitutional.

Judge walker concluded:

"Because Proposition 8 is unconstitutional under both the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses, the court orders entry of judgment permanently ... prohibiting the official defendants [state of California] from applying or enforcing Proposition 8..."

My 2 pence? This is great news for the LGBT community. At the end of the day, whether ot not you personally see yourself getting married in the future, at least with this rule you have the option should you meet that one who is down for the long haul. After all a private moral view that same-sex couples are inferior to opposite-sex couples is not a proper basis for legislation.
